How to get reviews that actually win you jobs
Ask any builder what wins them work and ‘recommendations’ comes up first. Online reviews are just word of mouth at scale — and one of the biggest factors in whether a stranger picks you or the next firm. Here’s how to collect them consistently.
Why reviews beat any advert. You can pay for an ad. You can’t pay for a customer to vouch for you. Google also rewards businesses with more, and more recent, reviews by ranking them higher locally.
Ask at the right moment. The best time is at handover, when the customer’s happiest. Ask in person, then follow up with a text.
A copy-paste message you can send:
“Hi [name], great working with you on [project]. If you were happy with the job, a quick Google review would mean a lot — it really helps a small business like ours. Here’s the link: [your review link]. Cheers!”
Make it easy. Send the direct Google review link (grab a short one from your Google Business Profile) and keep it saved on your phone.
Show them where they count. Put your best reviews on your website — homepage, service pages, and next to your quotes.
Handle the odd bad one calmly. Reply politely, take it offline, and move on. A measured response often impresses readers more than a wall of perfect scores.
A steady stream of reviews compounds — more trust, better rankings, more jobs. Book a free consultation and we’ll set up a simple system.
